Day trips with kids: Some family favorites

I’m a big believer in day trips as a form of travel, especially with kids. There’s nothing to beat acting like a tourist in your own town. And even when I go to other places I have a day-tripper mentality. I find a home base, preferably in the form of a short-term rental apartment, and use that as a jumping-off point for outings. I’ve found that my children can go all day long but like returning to the same place to sleep instead of switching from town to town or hotel to hotel.

One of our all-time favorite such day trips was when we visited Monet’s Garden in Giverny. Sure it was an hour-long train ride to and from Paris, but that only offered time to rest our legs and nap.

Everest "admires" the typewriters at SFMOMA

Everest had never encountered a real life typewriter until we saw them in the Museum of Modern Art at San Francisco (SFMOMA). The expression on his face seems fitting for a blogger's son, right?
